Gifted and Academically Talented Programs
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to Howell Township Public School’s Gifted and Academically Talented web page. The purpose of this site is to provide information about the programs that recognize the unique characteristics and needs of academically talented students. These programs provide a broadened core curriculum commensurate with the advanced abilities and achievements of the students. They present a sophisticated and challenging environment in which high-level cognitive and affective processes are developed. This is in keeping with Howell Township School District’s commitment to provide an educational program that recognizes the special value and individual needs of all our students.
In order to meet the needs and enrich the skills and abilities of academically talented students, Howell Township offers five student-centered programs: Project Explore for grades K-2, Enrichment Cluster Groups (ECG) for grades 3-5, Project GOAL (Great Opportunities for Advanced Learning) for grades 4-5, Project PLUS (Program for Learning and Unified Studies), and Accelerated and Enriched Pathways (AEP) for students in grades 6-8.
The high ability learner has needs that can be met in a multitude of ways. One way is through the effective differentiation of instruction in classrooms across the district. Another option to meet the needs of the academically gifted child is to provide an appropriate learning environment through Howell Township’s Gifted and Academically Talented inclusion and self-contained programs. Please take an opportunity to review our website to learn more about our outstanding programs for academically talented students.
